Death of Simon Peter Karanja (Kijana Wa Yesu)
Our brother Simon Peter passed away this morning at 11.00am in Nyahururu – Kenya. He has fought the good fight of faith and perseverance in the last couple of years where he struggled with severe diabetes and blindness. The good Lord has decided to promote him from this world of trouble and pain and now he is in a better place that we all look forward to. He leaves behind his children and parents who took great pains and hard work to take care of him. For those willing to help towards his funeral and farewell expenses can reach reach Pastor Jackson Kingori at 469-6828879 or 972-8017519. My e-mail is wa*******@ya***.com. During my last visit to see him at his parent’s home in Nyahururu in June this year (where Kijana was staying), it was obvious that they will need the support and help of those who knew and treasured Simon as God’s Servant.

The Kenyan Community in Topeka Ks, is mourning the loss of one of their own, Edah Chepkung Tawarar. Eddah was found dead in her apartment on 10/30/09. According to a close friend of the deceased, Edward Wanjohi, Edah had been suffering from bleeding ulcers. Autopsy results however were inconclusive though a hole was discovered on her throat, Wanjohi told Jambonewspot.

According to another close friend to the deceased, Salome Ngure, Edah had gone to hospital on the previous night and released. However, she was asked to report to work the following day by her employer. She worked on the 7am to 3pm shift on Friday and she was later found dead in the early hours of Saturday 10/31/2009. Ms Tawarar did not seem to know too many people and the few that she knew are doing everything possible to raise the required $10,000 to send her body home for burial. Edah first came to the US in 1998 where she was attending the University of Wisconsin before moving to Topeka in 1999. A fundraiser was held on Sunday 11/08/2009 and an amount of $3,000 was raised which is far short of the amount required. Mr Wanjohi said their wish is to transport Edah’s body home this coming weekend. Her body has been moved to Brennan Mathena funeral home in Topeka.

Edah was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Chemwey originally from Toroso locaton, Cheptais Division in Mt. Elgon District. Sister of Levi, Joshua, Emmanuel and Michael. Niece of Isaac, Bineah, Patrick, Vincent, Josephine, Violet, Rodgers, Evans and Peter Cheroti. Also of Rose, late Jamin, Henry, Florence, Christine and Diphus Chemorion, among many others.
If you would like to help in efforts to help facilitate her repatriation home, you can make contributions to-:

Teens plead not guilty in near-fatal beating of Kenyan caretaker
Stacia Glenn, Staff Writer
08/26/2009

Two teenagers charged with using a steam iron and wooden closet pole to severely beat their caretaker at a Yucaipa group home pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning.
Carlos Dubose, 17, of Oakland, and Davion Whitmore, 16, of Long Beach, were arraigned in San Bernardino Superior Court on charges of attempted murder, carjacking, second-degree robbery and evading an officer with willful disregard.
They also face a special allegation for inflicting great bodily harm, according to a criminal complaint. Both juveniles have been charged as adults.
Carlos and Davion are being held at San Bernardino Juvenile Hall and are scheduled to return to court Sept. 3 for a pre-preliminary hearing. A judge set their bail at $750,000.
Authorities said the teens attacked 43-year-old George Onyango late Saturday after one of them was denied a pass to leave the Aiming High Treatment Center on Fifth Place. The privately-owned group home is not a lockdown facility.
Sheriff’s deputies, who were called to the home by another probationer who lived there, found Onyango unconscious and bound in a bedroom closet. The teens allegedly stole money and clothing before escaping in the caretaker’s Honda.
A California Highway Patrol officer, who was unaware that the teens were wanted for attempted murder, tried to pull them over for a lane change violation. An 120 mph chase into Fontana commenced before Carlos and Davion exited the 10 Freeway at Sierra Avenue and crashed into a center median.
Onyango remains in critical condition on life support. He is suffering from severe brain damage and paralysis, officials said.
Since the teen probationers were being held in a private group home, the Probation Department does not have information on them.
Spokeswoman Susanne Pastuschek said Alameda County contacted them in July to advise that Carlos would be residing at the Yucaipa group home. Detectives say Davion is a documented Long Beach gang member

He was the husband of Lucy Kiplimo, father of Sally Jeptoo, Brian Kigen, Betty and Ken Limo. He was brother to Late Nahashon Kiptoo, Emmanuel Kibet, Anne Kagwe, Samson Bor, Mary Wilbourne, Nancy, Abraham, Anthony, Adam & Ruth. Brother-in-law of Mary Kibet, Daniel Kagwe, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, Peter Njoroge Kagwe, Monicah among others. Uncle and cousin of many. Burial will be at his Juja farm on Saturday August 22, 2009.

Eulogy for our beloved brother Sammy:

Sammy was born on the 3rd day of January 1963. He hails from a family of 6. He was diagnosed with colon cancer about a year ago and has been undergoing treatment since. We prayed everyday and had high hopes on him but the LORD our GOD had better plans for him. He rested on Monday the 17th August 2009. He leaves behind a wife and 4 children between the ages of 11 to 20. We LOVED him so much and will surely miss him for ever and ever.
Sammy was a charismatic, unassuming, caring and possessed a deep sense of humor. His friends ranged from those in big cities to the village patrons of local bars in small towns. In each he saw and admired inner qualities learning from their unique contributions and giving them the respect they each deserved. Sammy was organized and accomplished many milestones during his brief time on earth. He cared deeply for the less fortunate and chose to nurture, guide and financially support those outside his immediate family members throughout his working years. He touched hundreds of peoples’ lives from all walks. He battled Cancer each day as though he had just acquired new ammunition and strength to soldier on. He listened, took the pain and suffering in stride and applied his sense of humor to his daily ritual. During his final weeks, he gave us hope and joked how he knew he would shake a leg or two to some Ndombolo tune in this life, I am sure he is already dancing.
We saw courage, faith and conviction in him that we never knew existed. To his children he has paved a path that is brilliant and would like you to carry on with courage and faith, never giving up. His spirit is now embodied in all of us and we will continue to see him in his children. We will listen to his words of advice as they echo in our ears and see him in all the places that he liked to visit; and through the music that he enjoyed listening to. To all our friends and family, Sammy nods to each of you in acknowledgment for your support. He has joined our equally charismatic beloved brother Nash and our beloved grandma in a peaceful and better place. To those who toiled day and night for his mental and physical comfort, especially our sister Anne, there are no proper words to express the gratitude from those of us who were too far to cry with you. Dear Sammy, we release you hesitantly but with ultimate love! Rest in peace – for we will never forget you!

Sammy, his beloved youngest son Ken and a second cousin’s child.Next Picture: Annie (Sammy’s niece), Kibet (Sammy’s brother in Atlanta), Ken (Sammy’s son) and Lucy (Sammy’s wife).

Kenyan Man Dies in Worcester, MA

A 38 year old man in Worcester has died. Mr. David Muhia who lives in Worcester, MA and hails from Kiambu, Kenya died on Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
According to reliable sources in Worcester, Mr. Muhia developed a blood clot after an injury in one of his arm. He sought medical help and was put on Coumadin (A drug that helps in dissolving a clot, namely blood thinner). Friends believe he has been on this drug for over a year now.
On this particular night, our source reveals, he felt sick and very dizzy in the middle of the night. He was alone in his apartment, as he is unmarried. He called 911 when he felt like it was getting worse and was unable to get out of bed. He actually told the 911 dispatcher that they would even break in as he was so sick to get out of bed. The ambulance arrived shortly after 4.00am in the morning on Wednesday. The EMT staff tried all they could but it was too late, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the St Vincent Hospital where he was taken.
Mr. Muhia has no known close relatives in the USA. Friends are meeting daily at the Compassionate Gospel Church on 70 James Street Suite 139B from 6.00 pm for prayers and arrangement to transport the body to Kenya. A condolences book and a funding raising book have been opened and one can find it at Safari Cafe on Chandler Street, Worcester, MA.
A major prayer has been scheduled for Wednesday July 1st 2009 at the same venue, 70 James Street suite 139B starting at 6.00pm.
The main harambee/ fundraising has been tentatively been scheduled for Sunday July 5th 2009 at the same aforesaid venue.
Kenyans and all well wishers are requested to come forth and assist in this very tragic and untimely death of one of our own.
