Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche exclusively revealed to Goal.com that the powerful midfied star, will stand in for suspended striker Dennis Oliech.
“Wanyama will wear the armband when Kenya plays Nigeria on Wednesday,” said Amrouche. “He (Wanyama) has experience and the ability to lead the rest of the squad now that Oliech is suspended.”
“We need a player who can control the rest and Wanyama fits the bill. He will take charge against the African champions and I am very optimistic that he has the abilities to deliver in the new role.”
An elated Wanyama told Goal.com that he was excited with the new role. “I thank coach (Amrouche) for handing me the opportunity to lead Kenya against Nigeria.”
“I promise that we have prepared well and are ready to beat Nigeria at home. I urge fans to turn out in large numbers and support the team on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, the team will tomorrow (Monday June 3) pay a courtesy call to the Mama Ngina Childrens home at 11.00 o’clock as part of Football Kenya Federation’s corporate social responsibility.
