CS Kamau to face graft charges, Kambi off the hook

kamauLabour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi will not be charged over abuse of office allegations.   Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko said on Thursday he has rejected recommendations by the Anti-Corruption Commission to charge Kambi.

The Labour CS was named in the EACC’s  corruption report  over allegations  of irregular appointment  of Andrew Muigai and  Veska Kangongo as members of the NSSF Board.    Tobiko said the evidence is not sufficient to prosecute Kambi. The DPP said his office has also taken into account the numerous petitions pending before the Employments and Labour Relations Court and the High Court challenging the legality of the appointments.

Tobiko has however accepted the EACC’s recommendation to charge Transport CS Michael Kamau over graft allegations.    The CS is accused of colluding with with the company Kundan Singh Construction Co. Ltd and other public servants involved in the construction of the Kamukuywa – Kaptama – Kapsokwony – Kimilili Road to throw out a consultant’s design without following proper procedures.  The redesigning of the road led to massive embezzlement of funds. Tobiko said prosecution should start over the matter.
