ODM MP to move impeachment motion against DP Ruto –

HOMA Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma yesterday threatened to initiate removal of Deputy President William Ruto from office over allegations of corruption, if he does not step aside.

Kaluma said in a statement the Deputy President has violated the constitution, especially in his alleged involvement in corruption.

“It was time for Parliament to review his conduct,” he said.

The MP said he does not fear the tyranny of numbers, but that of mediocrity and idiocy.

“I call upon the Deputy President to uphold the constitution and resign from office to allow for free and proper investigations and prosecution of all scandals with which he is associated,” Kaluma said at Parliament Buildings.

The constitution gives the National Assembly powers to review the conduct in office of the President, the Deputy President and other state officers and to initiate their removal.

Kaluma’s impeachment efforts come after Nairobi businessman Herbert Ojwang’ linked Ruto to Sh28 billion construction of a new referral hospital in Eldoret town.

Ojwang’, who testified before the National Assembly Public Investments Committee last week, said the initial arrangement was to modernise Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital at Sh17 billion.

It was dismissed by the DP in favour of a new costlier facility.
