Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko says he has received a case file on Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko from the Ethics and Anti corruption, outlining his conduct on alleged harassment of officers of the Kenya National Highways Authority manning the Mtwapa weighbridge in Kilifi county.
The senator is accused of issuing threats to police officers on duty on the 26th of December last year and accusing them of systematic corruption.
In its recommendations EACC has referred the case to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution to carry out further investigations.
In regards to the disclosed violation of chapter 6 of the constitution the anti-corruption body has directed the matter be referred the senate for appropriate disciplinary action.
Sonko Monday denied harassing the officers saying he only demanded to know why the weighbridge officials seized a tanker that was transporting water to his home.
Tobiko says the Sonko’s file will be independently reviewed and appropriate action taken.
The Commission for Implementation has also added its voice to the issue and has recommended that Sonko and Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter be removed from office.
On Monday, CIC in a statement said that several leaders have failed the test of integrity and action should be taken against them.
They cited Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero slapping Nairobi women’s representative Rachel Shebesh, MPs debating the security laws in chaos and Keter and nominated MP Sunjeev Birdi accosting traffic police Kenha officers at Gilgil weighbridge.
Meanwhile, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is yet to receive an official communication from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution over the clearance of corruption cases facing suspended Cabinet secretaries Charity Ngilu and Felix Koskei.
EACC says the DPP is yet to return the files to the Anti-corruption body and as far as the commission is concerned, the two are not out of the woods yet.
The two must wait until their cases are dropped by the DPP.
