Kenyan student help team to win football game in Massachusetts

FRAMINGHAM — Kennedy Waruhiu rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns while leading Lowell Catholic past host Marian/Keefe Tech, 22-12, in a Catholic Central League Small School football game Friday night.

The Crusaders evened their record at 1-1 with the victory.

Waruhiu opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Ryan Mahoney recovered a fumble in the end zone for the second Lowell Catholic touchdown of the game. Tyler Longo caught a two-point conversion pass from Jahvon Fox to give the Crusaders a 14-0 halftime lead.

After Marian/Keefe Tech cut the deficit to 14-6, Waruhiu scored Lowell Catholic’s final touchdown of the night on a 14-yard run. Waruhiu then caught a two-point conversion pass from Fox to increase the Crusaders’ advantage to 22-6.

Fox completed 6 of 9 passes for 89 yards. Jhavon Robinson was Lowell Catholic’s leading receiver with 3 catches for 71 yards.

Eric Ouellette led the way on defense with 11 tackles, while Mike Zawadzki, Trevor Longo and Tyler Longo each had an interception.

Jerome Seglah (1.5) and Chris Bakas (.5) had sacks.
