The unions held separate meetings with their decision organs before asking members to resume work Monday.

They asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to pay members their September salaries.

Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion said the union will not withdraw from a case in which TSC has appealed against the decision to award teachers the 50-60 per cent pay rise.

“Teachers will resume strike after 90 days if TSC will not honour the orders,” he said.

He also called for the rescheduling of the national examinations timetable to enable teachers prepare candidates.

Kuppet Secretary-General Akelo Misori asked the Ministry of Education to revise term dates to allow teachers to help candidates revise for national exams.

On Thursday, the court ordered the unions to call off their month-long strike immediately.

Labour Court Judge Nelson Abuodha said he had ordered the unions to suspend the strike for 90 days and start negotiations with the government on the pay dispute.

The judge had directed Knut and Kuppet to form a committee with the Labour Cabinet secretary to discuss how best to implement the June 30 salary award of between 50 and 60 per cent.
