Five witnesses were procured to give false evidence against DP William Ruto, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said.
Kuria, who recorded a statement at the CID headquarters on Tuesday, said he could not name the witnesses as it would jeopardise investigations
“What do you benefit if someone is jailed?” he posed, saying he assisted the false witnesses in testifying before Justice Philip Waki and the Kriegler Commission that investigated the 2007-8 violence.
The MP further lashed out at Cord leader Raila Odinga for laying down conditions for testifying for the DP, who was in the ODM team during the post-poll chaos.
“How then do you have the moral authority to tell people that you lead by example? Truth and honesty should be unconditional,” he said.
On Monday, Raila pegged testifying for Ruto at the ICC on presidential orders for several individuals to disclose names of witnesses allegedly procured.
Raila said Kuria, JAP vice chairman David Murathe, lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo and Njenga Mwangi should swear affidavits also indicating what they allegedly told the witnesses.
“This will enable the defense lawyers to discredit their testimony in their arguments on ‘no case to answer’. This will also help those willing to testify in favour of the DP, including myself,” he said.
“My testimony would equally require that those who coached witnesses disclose what they told the witnesses to say against Ruto to enable me effectively counter the lies in aide of the DP.”
Kuria confessed to buying off witnesses to testify against Ruto, claiming Narc Kenya leader Martha helped during her tenure as Justice minister.
The MP, who also implicated Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, was ordered to refrain from linking Karua to the case until Wednesday, when her case against him will be heard.
