Kenya will have a woman president in 2022, says Ruth Odinga

Ruth said her brother Raila Odinga will win the 2017 elections and pave the way for a female president.

She spoke in Voi town on Wednesday at a rally on women and leadership.

Ruth was with Taita Taveta Deputy Governor Mary Ndigha, Governor John Mruttu’s wife Hope Mruttu and other women leaders from the region.

“I will contest the Kisumu governor’s position in 2017. Women must take leadership,” Ruth said.

She faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating elected leaders in his government, saying it will cost taxpayers a lot of money to conduct by-elections when these leaders are appointed.

“Going for a by-election at this time when the nation is facing a financial crisis is very bad. The President made a mistake in appointing elected senators and MPs in his government when we have other qualified people,” Ruth said.

She said Uhuru does not have faith in women leadership because he reduced their number in his Cabinet.

“Rwanda and Uganda are heading to 50 per cent in women leadership. Our president is taking us back by reducing the number of women from 33 per cent to a quarter,” Ruth said.
