Kenyans who fought in the second world war took part in the November 8, 2015 Remembrance Sunday ceremony that was held in London, United Kingdom, led by Queen Elizabeth.
Remembrance Sunday is marked every year on the Sunday closest to 11th November, to honour the fighting men and and women and those who gave service to the British and Commonwealth military during the war.
During the ceremony, held near UK Prime Minister’s residence, two minutes’ silence is observed at 11am, depicting the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, when the guns of Europe went quiet.
Wreaths are also laid during the ceremony attended by the war veterans including these ones from Kenya, to commemorate those who died during the war.
At the end of the ceremony, the veterans do a marching parade.
World War 2 (1939-1945), involving many countries fighting in two ‘teams’, is widely referred to as the deadliest clash in human history due to the number of fatalities recorded, that reached 85 million.
During the war, the British Army recruited largely from Kenya, compared to other countries in Africa.
