NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 – Pope Francis is Thursday morning expected to visit a Catholic Parish in Nairobi’s Kangemi neighborhood, which is already packed with residents.
The Holy Father arrived at the St Joseph the Worker Parish at 8.30am and was scheduled to spend one and a half hours, where he will conduct meetings with residents and the faithful.
Judy Kaberia of Capital FM News is in Kangemi where she interviewed some of the children set to meet the Pope during his visit.
“I have come to see the Pope and I am happy for this reason,” one of the children interviewed stated.
Only invited guests are allowed into the church, but other residents of Kangemi have lined up the route he is set to use hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
Business people there said they were excited of their VIP guest although they would remain busy.
“I will continue with my work because the Pope has come in his work and I too have my work. What is more important is my personal intimate relationship with my maker and he is the maker of the Pope too so I have to be busy as he too is busy on his own,” John Sifuna, a resident there said.
Dickson Muganga, a trader in Kangemi described the Pope’s visit there, as a blessing.
“We are waiting for him eagerly and that is why we have woken up early to receive him. We want him to pass here; my mandazis are ready and he can even taste them,” he stated.
The Pope will conclude his visit after addressing a meeting of young people at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and before meeting all the Catholic Bishops in Kenya at Kasarani.
Pope Francis will then head to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where he will be seen off by President Uhuru Kenyatta to depart for Entebbe, Uganda.
During a mass on Thursday, the Pope appealed to the youth to build a society, that is more just and inclusive to all, while urging the faithful to show genuine concern for the poor.
