Margaret Wanjiru Njuguna, 66, who worked in different hospitals in the UK, Italy, France and Germany, gave a donation of items worth one million shillings to Tigoni Sub-County hospital in Limuru.

Wanjiru said the government was doing much in improving healthcare in the country, and it was important that other people chipped in one way or another by giving to hospitals, dispensaries and hospitals.

“I have been working in hospitals in the diaspora as a community health worker for over 40 years, and I know that patients suffer when they are not taken care of well with the best equipment, bedding, clothing and other amenities.”

She remembered years ago when she was brought by her mother to the hospital, and she said it was very cold and knew the patients and staff would appreciate the donation.

“I urge people of goodwill, with a heart to help to take up the challenge and make our public hospitals more comfortable for patients,” said Wanjiru, while speaking at the Tigoni sub-county hospital.

Deputy Speaker-Kiambu County Assembly and Member of County Assembly of Bibirioni (Limuru) Antony Macharia was at the function when the donation was made.

Macharia said the county government had invested millions in improving the health facilities in the 12 sub-counties, but were still welcoming such well-wishers to better the lives of the people and patients.

“Wanjiru’s gesture is an example of how communities should value public facilities, and for even hundreds in the diaspora to come back home and invest in their country through giving and other avenues,” said Macharia.

Others in the delegation were county clinical services director Andrew Toro, Tigoni deputy superintendent Dr Mumbi Chege, Tigoni MCA Kamau Gachumi and nominated MCA Lillian Mwaura.
