Devotion:Have You Missed This Kind Of Opportunity?
God may send us someone who is in need because He knows that we have the ability or resources to help. But out of our selfishness or our view of the one in need, we decide not to give the help needed. The reasons we give range from I do not have or this is the wrong place or people to seek help from.
By doing this we miss the opportunity to be used by God to answer someone’s prayer and for someone to see Him through us. But this is not the only thing we miss. We also miss the blessing for this kind act and many other blessings God would have sent us because of the one act of obedience.
Read this passage carefully.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”— when you already have it with you. Proverbs 3:27-28
Sometimes back when I was in Bible College, some Christian neighbors invaded my aunt’s farm and plough it all for her. They did not ask her if she needed help because they knew every year my aunt struggled to plough her farm in readiness to plant corn/maize. When I went home for the holidays, my aunt told me what these Christian neighbors had done for her. Then she said, “If the Jesus you are talking about is the same one who does such things, then I want this Jesus”. Their kind act, won my aunt to Christ.
These Christians saw the need of my aunt as an opportunity to be used by God to show the love of Christ to my aunt. It worked!
APPLICATION:
1. Has God ever presented you with this kind of opportunity? If so, what did you do with it?
2. Have you ever missed this kind of opportunity in your life?
a. If so, how do you feel about it now?
b. But if you did not miss it, what lessons did you learn from it?
c. Did you experience any blessings from God as a result of your obedience?
3. Is it possible that God has presented you with this kind of opportunity and yet you have not done anything about it?
4. Always be on the look out and be ready for God may send you this kind of opportunity at anytime.
