Cord plans to hold a parallel rally at Uhuru Park on June 1 during Madaraka day celebrations while President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to lead the national celebrations at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
The Coalition has notified police of their plan and asked for adequate security.
“We kindly request you to organise for the necessary arrangements to ensure the safety of all leaders and wananchi who will attend the rally,” Cord secretariat CEO Norman Magaya said.
Noting that they have secured the grounds, Magaya said the rally will be attended by Cord Principals Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka.

In a letter dated May 23, 2016, Cord said the rally will celebrate civil liberties and freedoms, and reaffirm the quest for constitutionalism in Kenya.
The letter was sent to Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome and was received and signed on the May 25.
The Madaraka Day celebrations at the Afraha stadium mark the first time the public holiday will be held away from Nairobi.
The celebrations are the second largest meeting by Uhuru in Nakuru town, after holding a thanksgiving rally at the stadium on April 16 following the termination of ICC cases against Deputy President Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang.
The Madaraka Day celebrations in Afraha has been described as an affirmation of Jubilee’s authority in Rift Valley, after Kanu appeared to be regaining popularity.
