A Pittsburgh man was arrested Thursday night by Cecil Township police after he allegedly assaulted a man whom he believed was having an affair with his wife.
Henry Njogu Mwaura, 44, was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and criminal mischief. He is accused of assaulting 47-year-old Jabulani Sibanda in a parking lot off the 500 block of Southpointe Boulevard.
Police arrived to find Mwaura and his wife, Elon Mwaura, near a vehicle in the lot and Sibanda further down the lot. Henry Mwaura told police he called 911 because he found his wife in a car with Sibanda. As Sibanda walked toward police, the officer said he could see the man was injured and needed medical attention for what appeared to be knife wounds on his head and forearm as well as a large cut above his left eye. He told police Henry Mwaura attacked him.
Mwaura told police he warned Sibanda to stay away from his wife. He also reportedly said he filed a complaint with the State Correctional Institution-Greene, where his wife and Sibanda work. Mwaura told police he installed a tracking device on his wife’s phone and tracked her after she left work to the lot.
Mwaura got a baseball bat, breaking out a window in the vehicle his wife was in with Sibanda. Mwaura and Sibanda struggled and Sibanda got the bat, which he started swinging at Mwaura, police said. Mwaura told police he retrieved a knife to defend himself.
Mwaura gave police permission to search his vehicle. Police found both the bat and knife. The knife blade was broken.
Sibanda told police he and Mwuara’s wife were not having an affair but he was counseling her through a bad time. He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment.
Redlinger placed Mwaura in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a June 23 preliminary hearing before District Judge Traci McDonald.
