Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria on Tuesday quit his position in the Parliamentary Energy and ICT Committee and proposed an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator as his replacement.

In a letter addressed to the majority whip, Katoo Ole Mitito, Kuria recommended that Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro take up his position.

“As my replacement, I would kindly request you to appoint the Hon MP for Kilifi North Gideon Mung’aro, who is equally capable,” said Kuria.

Mung’aro had earlier announced that he had broken ties with ODM and would not defend his seat through the party during the next General Election. He has been considered a rebel member of the Opposition party.

Mr Mung’aro cut links with the Opposition early in the year after he was unceremoniously kicked out as ODM’s minority chief whip and subsequently lost the Coast Parliamentary Group (CPG) chairmanship to Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga.

The Gatundu South lawmaker said that following the de-whipping of Munga’ro, Kilifi County was lacking representation in Parliament.

“By serving in the department committee for Energy and ICT, Mr Munga’aro will ably represent his county and country and remedy the marginalization of Kilifi County that arose from his de-whipping by ODM,” said Kuria

Kuria added that he gave up the position following his numerous roles as a member of the Budget and Appropriations committee.

He added that proposing Munga’ro was a personal sacrifice in solidarity with the legislator.

Kuria said he will organize a homecoming party for Mung’aro in Malindi next week.
