A delegation of Kisii County political leaders Thursday visited State House in what they said was to discuss development projects for the Gusii people.

The delegation was led by Kisii Senator Chris Obure and deputy governor Joash Maangi.

They said their visit was neither political nor was it to declare their political affiliation.

“We have not defected. As you can see we are a mixture of leaders from many parties and we came here today to discuss issues facing the Abagusii people,” said Mr Obure.

He added: “I still remain the chairman of ODM Kisii County branch but if the Gusiis decide to steer us another way, then we will discuss with our people and see the way forward.”

Among the issues the leaders discussed with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were the expansion of Suneka airstrip, roads in the county, revival of industrial projects and appointments in government jobs, he said.

Mr Maangi, who also said he remained in ODM, last December led county assembly members to Mr Ruto’s Sugoi home to again discuss development projects.

Former Constitution Implementation Commission chairman Charles Nyachae, who was part of the delegation, said the visit was to push for the Abagusii people’s agenda.

Other leaders included Bomachoge Chache MP Joel Onyancha, Bomachoge Masaba MP Simon Ogari, Kitut Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi, Nyaribari Masaba MP Elijah Moindi, Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tongi, Bobasi MP Stephen Manoti, Bonchari MP Zebedeo Opore, and nominated Senator Hosea Ochwangi.
