A Hazelwood, Missouri, man is facing a child endangerment charge after police said he left a 4-year-old in a hot car on Friday, resulting in the child having a seizure.
Police said Charles Njeri, 32, left the 4-year-old in the car on the 13000 block of Taussig Avenue for an hour and 40 minutes while he went to a car auction. When he returned to his car, the child was having a seizure. The outside temperature was about 86 degrees.
When the emergency department arrived, they found that the child’s internal temperature was 105 degrees. The child was taken to the ICU and treated for swelling of the brain and various heat-stroke related injuries.
According to charging documents, Njeri is facing one count of felony endangering the welfare of a child, a class-C felony.
