Why CORD leader Raila Odinga postponed Taita Taveta tour

CORD leader Raila Odinga postponed his trip of Taita Taveta County that had been scheduled for Wednesday following pressing engagements in Nairobi.

The CORD leader was scheduled to hold a meeting with ODM leaders before addressing public rallies in the county.

In a statement, Odinga’s spokesman, Dennis Onyango, said that the postponement was occasioned by delays in the presentation of the report of the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee on IEBC.

“The activity had been scheduled for earlier in the day but was moved to this (Wednesday) afternoon.”

Some reports, however, indicate that Odinga’s postponement of the trip could have partly been as a result of power tussles in the county.

Two warring factions in the county had set up separate ODM offices, which Odinga was expected to officially open; one by Governor John Mruttu and the other by Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu who is interested in racing Mruttu for the governorship seat in the 2017 elections.

Odinga’s engagements in the county had to be undertaken by the county Governor John Mruttu and the ODM leadership in the county.

His other activities in Kwale and Tana River on Thursday and Friday are, however, on track, according to Onyango.
