A church in Makueni has been closed after reports emerged that it had been turned into a sex den with a school girl, said to have been impregnated after being involved in one of the orgies dropped out school.
However, the proprietor Emmanuel Juma popularly known as Mtesa Majini — who claims to bust ghosts — has denied the accusations and blamed other church leaders for his woes.
The church is located in Masongaleni Market, Kibwezi East Sub-County.
Mr Juma, on Thursday, presented himself to Machinery Assistant County Commissioner Vitalis Ogur to respond to complaints that he had turned his Oasis of Revival church premises into a den of orgies.
“These allegations are baseless. They are falsehoods peddled by traders who lead wayward lifestyles at the market and who have been unable to stomach our style of preaching,” he told reporters after the meeting.
According to him, his style of evangelism that entails exorcising demons had earned him enemies among fellow pastors and traders at the market.
“They have fought me since I first set base at the market a year ago,” he said.
UNDER ATTACK
He was accompanied by his sister —Jacinta Mueni — and two worshipers at the church among them area assistant chief Samuel Kiminza.
“He came with an appealing evangelical style that has seen pastors and worshipers from other churches troop to his church and that explains why he is under attack,” Mr Kiminza said.
At a rally addressed by Mr Ogur at Masongaleni Market on Wednesday, residents complained that orderlies working in cahoots with Mr Juma had involved themselves in orgies and cited school girls who they said had dropped out of school as a consequence.
Ms Mary Mutembei, the head of the parents’ association at Masongaleni Secondary School, for instance, identified a student at the school that she said had fallen prey to the church officials, became pregnant and dropped out of the school.
She appealed to Mr Ogur to act on the complaints and in response, the administrator ordered the church closed to give authorities room to investigate the allegations.
And after meeting the pastor, the administrator said: “We have agreed that the church will remain closed until we investigate the allegations labelled against the pastor and the church officials.”
He said that he was planning to meet the complainants and the church officials to get to the bottom of the issue.
