ODM has so far flagged off one bus, 46 short of what it had promised on Wednesday.

Deputy party leader Hassan Joho flagged off the bus at Fort Jesus on Thursday, together with his other two chase cars whose windscreens were branded with the ODM colours and logo.

The bus will be used to pick delegates across the country ahead of ODM’s 10 th anniversary to be held in Mombasa on Saturday.

MPs Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Mishi Mboko (Mombasa), Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita) and deputy governor Hazel Katana were present.

Joho said other buses had already left Mombasa to pick delegates from across the country.

“They have left to pick supporters because they will take two days to be in Mombasa,” he said.

He said others were being branded from different counties and will be in Mombasa for Saturday’s anniversary.

The bus flagged off by Joho had no number plate.

The party’s director of elections and campaings Junet Mohamed has issued a statement on Wednesday saying ODM would flag off 47 branded buses to each of the 47 counties on Thursday.

“The vehicles will be branded to comb the entire country, mobilising and rallying people around our 2017 agenda,” he said.

He also said some 823 personal vehicles donated by supporters would converge in Mombasa.

The show of might by the opposition comes after Jubilee Party spent the last week parading 47 branded Prados ahead of the party’s launch in Kasarani Safaricom Stadium on Saturday.

Jubilee has also leased an eight-storey building in Pangani and has been putting up banners across the country.

But Joho has dismissed them saying: “Our celebration is supported by the goodwill of our supporters.”

He said 450 MCAs, 110 MPs, 18 Senators and at least 10 Governors have confirmed attendance to ODM’s anniversary fete.

The party also intends to parade Jubilee defectors at the event.
