URP officials plan to move to Mashinani Party after Jubilee Party launch – Rutto

More than 200 officials of Deputy President William Ruto’s URP party want to join the Chama Cha Mashinani after affiliate Jubilee Alliance parties merge to form the Jubilee Party.

Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto will welcome the URP officials soon to his CCM. “We are just waiting for them to go and destroy URP, bury it and lock up the others in JP, then we will move to tell people the truth,” he said. URP was seen to dominate the Rift Valley in the March 4, 2013, general election.

More than 50 URP officials in Bomet have already moved to CCM and they will be joined by others from Kericho, Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet. Sources said 10 MPs from URP are also planning to join Chama Cha Mashinani because they fear that nominations in JP for the 2017 polls will not be free and fair.

The governor says the party will open branch offices starting with counties in the Rift Valley, then recruit more members.
