A man from Kisumu County, who allegedly spent Sh1.2 Million on his son’s birthday, was last week kicked out of his business apartment after failing to pay four months rent.

Douglas Otieno – popularly known as Daggy Owila – had accumulated Sh118,000 rent arrears and had been evading the landlord since July.

According to the landlord, Dan Aguko, Owila was expected to pay Sh35,000 every month but had only paid Sh22,000 in July and since then he never made any other payment.

Aguko claimed that his attempts to trace Owila had borne no fruit, therefore, had resorted to confiscating the man’s property in the office which include a seven-seater sofa set, two tables and crucial documents. The landlord added that despite contacting him on several occasions, Otieno had declined to pay the rent.

“The seats and documents we are holding cannot be converted to cash to recover the amount of money he owes us; hence we are still pursuing him to pay the money. Sometimes he never picks calls and at times he receives and gives promises. The latest promise is end of this month, so we are waiting for the deadline.”

“People come to inquire if we have space and we tell them no. We have now decided to lease the house as this is business and we cannot leave a house vacant yet the tenant is not honouring the agreement,” Aguko was quoted by Standard Digital.

Otieno rose to fame last month after NairobiNews reported he had organised a two-day fete for his son Rayan Tyron at Royala City Hotel and spent over half a million.

The photos of the extravagant event surprised many after they were widely shared on social media.
