Appearing before Trial Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi at the anti-corruption court, Ms Ngugi was accused of false accounting and fraudulently acquiring public property, which the prosecution sufficiently proved.

On false accounting charge, the suspect was convicted to two years in prison and three years for fraudulent acquisition but was at the same time denied an option of fine.

The sentences will run concurrently meaning that Ms Ngugi will only serve a maximum of three years.

This comes just a day after Kenyatta released 7,000 petty offenders declaring that he was creating space in jail for senior officers accused of graft.

During his Mashujaa Day speech, the President added urged newly sworn in Chief Justice David Maraga to speed up conclusion of graft cases pending in court, reiterating his commitment in fighting the menace.

Earlier in the week during a State House Summit on Accountability, the Head of State accused the judiciary of being the weakest in fighting graft by failing to jail high ranking officers in the country.

Maraga, however during his Wednesday swearing in ceremony assured that he would concentrate on reducing backlog of cases by automating court proceedings.
