Sonko Threatens Jubilee After Recording Statement at CID Headquarters

SonkoNairobi Senator Mike Sonko has issued a thinly veiled warning to the Jubilee Party following the last Friday incident where he declared himself the acting President during a burial in Machakos County.

Speaking on Monday after he recorded a statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters, Sonko indicated that he was unbowed by the government agents going after him over the ‘Acting President’ utterances.

Through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, Sonko divulged that despite his contentious remarks, Jubilee cannot afford to lose him because of the huge chunk of votes he commands.

Ombeta divulged that although Sonko might lose his “political respect” from the President and Jubilee officials, it would be a disaster for the ruling party if he were to join CORD.

“He might have done a blunder but the fact remains Sonko is an asset to the party who comes with numbers. If they lose Sonko to CORD, “It will be a disaster and a big blow to Jubilee.” Ombeta stated as quoted by the Star.

Sonko spent two hours at the DCI headquarters where he denied claims that he had declared himself the President and informed the investigators that he had witnesses to back him.

The lawyer argued that his client’s remarks had not disrespected anyone sine there was no third in command in the country.

“There is no third in command in the Kenyan constitution and therefore there is no one he impersonated,” Ombeta affirmed.

The file will be taken to Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko, who ordered that he be grilled for his utterances after the video went viral on social media.

Sonko caused a spectacle at the burial of former Kathiani Member of Parliament (MP) Wavinya Ndeti’s husband after his remarks.

“The President is in Togo and his Deputy is in France. I am now the third in command and the acting President of the Republic of Kenya. All these police officers and vehicles you see are here because am now the acting President,” Sonko said on Friday.

The flamboyant Senator, however, accused the media of maliciously editing the clip to depict his “social, political and influence-based position as challenging the presidency”.
