Joho’s D- in KCSE ‘not end of the road’, says Raila

Raila Odinga has defended Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s performance in the 1993 KCSE saying it is not the end of the road.

The NASA co-principal said no one should say failing an examination spells doom.

Kuvunjika kwa mwiko sio mwisho wa upishi (A broken cooking stick does not force one to stop preparing a meal),” he said in Kisii on Thursday.

He added: “Joho is clean and has done nothing wrong. If Jubilee dares, wataona cha mtema kumi (they will be in trouble).”

Raila also addressed governors, county officials and delegates at the first health investment conference hosted by Governor James Ongwae.

Joho’s D- grade took centre stage amid claims that he forged the certificate so he could get into the UoN.

The claim is that he presented a forged 1992 examination result slip with a C+ mean grade for a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

But the Governor said he was proud of the grade he attained as he struggled to pay his school fees, a circumstance he said President Uhuru Kenyatta probably did not undergo.

He also said the grade pushed him to work harder and succeed.

Why would I want to forge my own certificate… I am a holder of a D- but I have changed that to progress,” he said.

“I will progress and you will not stop me. If you do not do well there are many ways to further your education.”

On Wednesday, Joho recorded a statement at the directorate of criminal investigations headquarters in Mombasa.

Siaya Senator and lawyer James Orengo, woman representative Mishi Mboko, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi accompanied him.

ODM secretary general Agnes Zani and several supporters also went to the station to show their support.
