Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has hit out at Deputy President (DP) William Ruto for what he terms as ‘dictating to voters in Bomet on how to choose their leaders’ during his recent visit to the county.
The governor, who was speaking at St Veronica Catholic Church in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, insisted that people of Bomet will not be told how to exercise their own rights during the August polls, adding that the DP that he is a nonentity when it comes to the county’s gubernatorial race.
“The deputy president is not my campaign manager and he should know that even in 2013 I campaigned for him and President Uhuru Kenyatta and it is not vice versa,” Governor Ruto said.
The DP has been paying visits to the county ostensibly to drum up support for Sotik Lawmaker Joyce Laboso – the preferred JP candidate in the Bomet gubernatorial race.
The outspoken governor has, however, remained optimistic of his re-election through his Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party in the coming General Election.
“I will trounce Jubilee in Bomet at 9 in the morning and there is no doubt about my retaining the gubernatorial seat,” he said.
The Jubilee Rebel also insisted that he does not regret ditching the ruling coalition.
“I have been consistent in my political career and my decision to form CCM is well informed. The country must devolve properly and that is my quest,” he added.
According to the Party Leader, CCM will field candidates in all elective posts except that of the president in Bomet, Narok, Nakuru and Kericho Counties to popularise the new party.
Accompanying the governor were another Jubilee Rebel-Kuresoi South lawmaker, Zakayo Cheruiyot, and Nakuru County gubernatorial aspirant on a CCM ticket Dr Koros.
