Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro on Wednesday arrived at Orange House in Nairobi with angry supporters to protest the ODM party’s refusal to allow her to contest for the Ruaraka parliamentary seat.

Ms Ongoro claimed the party had illegally stopped her from vying for the seat and issued a direct ticket to incumbent MP Tom Kajwang.

“They have stopped me from vying without any substantial reason.

“I’m not intimidated. I will contest for the seat on a Nasa affiliate party if ODM does not want me to,” she insisted.

Police fired two shots in air to disperse the crowd that was chanting slogans in support of Ms Ongoro as they beat up the Orange party officials.

ODM Executive Director Oduor Ongw’en was manhandled and lifted like a loose feather by the mean-looking men.

Earlier, it had been rumoured Ms Ongoro had defected to another party after ODM barred her from contesting on the grounds that she had been associated with violence.

In March, two people died in Mathare North after her supporters clashed with those of Mr Kajwang.
