The Embassy of Kenya in Berlin is inviting all Kenyans living in Germany to its annual general meeting with citizens – Kenyan Diaspora Day – on Saturday, 3 June 2017 in Frankfurt am Main.
The event, which will be hosted by Ambassador Joseph Magutt, will also be attended by senior officials from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, Nairobi Securities Exchange, the Department of Immigration and the Kenya Revenue Authority.
The meeting, with the theme “Forging partnership with Kenyan Diaspora”, provides a platform for interaction between the government, the private sector and Kenyans abroad on Kenya’s national agenda. It’s also an opportunity for the Kenyan Diaspora to let the government know what it thinks about key national issues as well as about matters directly concerning them.
A recently-published report, commissioned by the German government, found that the Kenyan government was yet to tap into the potential within the Germany Diaspora, as it was already doing with those in the UK and US. The Frankfurt meeting could be seen as an effort by the Kenyan government and private sector to begin to actively engage citizens living in Germany.
The Embassy has therefore called on the leaders of Kenyan associations in the country to spread information about the important meeting to their members so that they can attend it. Evaline Onyuma, Administrative Attaché at the Embassy, has assured that there will be plenty of entertainment and food at the event.
There are about 14,000 Kenyans in Germany, according to official figures.
