Poll shows Waiguru will sweep Kirinyaga but Nairobi tight

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 20 – If elections were held in Nairobi today, Governor Evans Kidero (ODM) and Mike Sonko (Jubilee) would tie at 44 per cent followed by Peter Kenneth at four per cent and Miguna Miguna at one per cent according to a new opinion poll.

ODM’s Esther Passaris would be ahead with 50 per cent of the vote in the Woman Representative’s seat followed closely by Rachael Shebesh of Jubilee at 31 per cent.

The survey by Trends and Insights for Africa Company (TIFA) was done between July 14 and 17, according to Managing Director Maggie Ireri.

“From what we are seeing in this Nairobi Governor’s race it will be very tight because our data shows it’s very close. Either one of them could be ahead but with a very small margin. If I were Esther Passaris, I would work very hard because Shebesh is really coming up,” said Ireri.

For Nairobi Senator, Johnson Sakaja of the Jubilee Party is leading at 40 per cent followed by Edwin Sifuna of ODM at 24 per cent.

In Kilifi County, which according to the research is predominantly a National Super Alliance (NASA) stronghold, incumbent Governor Amason Kingi would win with 51 per cent followed by Gideon Mung’aro of Jubilee at 16 per cent.

Most people remain undecided on who to vote for as the Woman Representative.

Kirinyaga was also among counties sampled in the research, which showed incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi would lose to Ann Waiguru who is vying on a Jubilee ticket at 55 per cent, followed by Martha Karua of NARC Kenya at 35 per cent while Ndathi trails at 3 per cent.
