Devotion: When worry kicks in, look at the birds

Bird Watching:What do you worry about? When your mind shifts into neutral gear, when you drift off into your thoughts, what are the things you worry about? Is it how the rent will be paid or where food will come from? Many people worry about these things because they are important, they are the basics that we all need.
Matthew 6:25-26
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?
Jesus tells us not to worry about these things and He brings in a new perspective when He say your body is more important than what you wear and life is more important than food. It is all about getting the right perspective. The birds of the air do not sow and reap and yet our father in heaven feeds them. Now the thing is, the birds still have to go out to scratch and search for food.
They don’t sit in their nest waiting for God to drop them some food they go out and God guides and directs them. They do not sow and neither do they reap and store in barns but you will never find them worried about where the next meal will come from. Jesus says that we are more valuable in Gods eyes than the birds which He feeds faithfully, how much more will He care for us?
Remember in the time of famine, Elijah was fed by ravens that were directed by God.
1 Kings 17:2-4
2 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”
The ravens brought him bread and meat, how is that even possible? God knew exactly where Elijah was and He directed the ravens to the drop off point.
Think about the children of Israel who were fed in the wilderness for 40 years. God gave them food and water consistently without fail despite the fact that they disobeyed Him from time to time.
God is basically saying “do not worry about food drink and clothes, I have you covered! Seek my kingdom first and these things will be added to you, you will not even have to think about them”. The problem is that many stop seeking after Gods kingdom and instead we start following after these other things which leads into a vicious circle of worry and anxiety.
Seek Him first and when worry begins to kick in, just look at the birds!
