5 Kenyan politicians visits Malaysian state assembly

KUALA LUMPUR: The state assembly today received a delegation of five Kenyan politicians as part of their working visit to exchange ideas on how to better serve the people in both countries.

In welcoming them, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said Selangor is the only state that had a foreign delegation visit its state assembly.

“The purpose of this visit is to network and exchange ideas on how to best serve the people who elected us,” he said.

The delegation consisted of four senators from Kenya’s house of representatives and also a governor, who is the equivalent of a mentri besar or chief minister in Malaysia.

Delegation leader Billow Kerrow said they also met the Malaysian senate in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday to learn more about Malaysia’s political system, which is based on the United Kingdom’s Westminster system, whereas Kenya’s system is similar to that of the United States.

Kerrow, who is the senator for Mandera, said Kenya has had good diplomatic relations with Malaysia since both countries gained independence and are also trade partners.
