North Rift coordinator Kipkorir Menjo said they expect signatures from people who want to back the referendum.

“We all want money to be devolved to counties. The Kenyans who support this demand will turn up and sign,” he said.

Cord says its targeting more than one million signatures in the region which largely supported Jubilee in the March 2013 elections.

“This issue is not about parties. It’s about the welfare of Kenyans and that is why we need to think of the future of this country regardless of the side we support politically,” Menjo said.

He was with ODM officials Moira Chepkok and Charles Tanui.

They distributed booklets that will be used in the exercise.

The collection of signatures was launched in Eldoret.

Governor Jackson Mandago, who was initially supporting the exercise, withdrew his support.

He said it is a ploy by Cord to destabilise the Jubilee government before the next elections.
