Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has dismissed allegations that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be Cord’s automatic presidential candidate in the next general elections.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia, Wetang’ula said the three principals in CORD have agreed to face each other in a poll that will determine who will fly the coalition’s flag.
“The three of us will go through a nomination exercise. Nobody should spread lies that I am being duped,” he spoke at the Burial of Matumbei ward MCA Ronald Wanjala at Kimondo.
The Bungoma Senator said locals should not be deceived by Amani Coalition leaders to support the jubilee government yet the region has been marginalized in appointments and developments.
“We are not against the government but we should not kneel at their doors to seek favours when we have a constitutional right,” said the senate Minority leader.
NEW FORD KENYA AGAINST REFERENDUM
New Ford Kenya leaders on their part urged locals to reject calls for a referendum saying it is a political ploy by CORD to ensure it has ground for the 2017 general elections.
Endebess MP Robert Pukose (URP) and his Saboti counterpart David Wafula (New Ford Kenya) challenged those calling for the referendum to give the Jubilee administration time to implement its agenda.
“This Constitution cannot be amended hurriedly yet it has not been fully implemented. Give it time please,” said Wafula.
New Ford Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa told Cord not to expect its push for a referendum to sail through in Trans Nzoia since his party’s majority MCAs will reject it at the assembly.
“You have a right to convince these people to append their signatures but be rest assured that your push will not sail through at the assembly,” Wamalwa told him.
Cherang’any MP Wesley Korir said the president should now rise above politics and form a committee to look in to the issues being championed for a referendum by Cord and Governors.
“The president should form a committee to harmonise issues being raised by Cord and the governor’s council to avoid polarizing the country along political lines,” he said.
