Rift Valley leaders are honouring their right to help Kalenjins solve their problems, not trying to divide them, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has said.

Gideon denied claims by Deputy President William Ruto that the leaders are steering division in order to garner support.

The Kanu national chairman said the leaders should be respected and the issues they raise noted. He said they will pursue respect for all regardless of positions and views.

He spoke at Olenguruone, Nakuru county on Sunday, accompanied by Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto and Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot.

Rutto asked the Deputy President to stop “chest-thumping” and work with all elected leaders despite their political stands.

“His hard-line position is complicating his leadership in the region. He needs to re-think it before things get out of control,” Rutto said.

He urged Ruto to hold talks on issues affecting the people, noting that neither he nor other area leaders have a problem working with him.

“The Deputy President needs to hold dialogue with other leaders in the region. It is surprising that URP has not held a single meeting since election, these are issues we are not happy with,” he said.

He underlined that they will ensure all leaders are respected.

Kanu secretary general Nick Salat said the party is open to working with “like-minded” parties with the aim of equitably serving all Kenyans.

“The issue of 2022 is like being given a blank cheque to bank come that time. This is unrealistic, that is why they want issues affecting the country and our community addressed now,” he said.
