Homa Bay Politics:Aladwa quits city board position

“I have decided to fire myself before I am fired:THE chairman of the city liquor board has resigned over alleged political differences with Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

Speaking at City Hall yesterday, George Aladwa said Kidero intended to fire him from the Nairobi City County Liquor Control and Licensing Board on Tuesday.

He said this was because he chairs an ODM committee that will take disciplinary measures against Kidero on Monday.

The governor on Tuesday backed ODM candidate Moses Kajwang’s rival in the February 12 Homa Bay senate by-election, Philip Okundi.

“I have decided to fire myself before I am fired. But we will definitely fire Kidero from the party,” Aladwa said.

Cord MCAs asked the county boss to resign from ODM and join Okundi’s Maendeleo Democratic Party.

“Kidero has gone against the party’s wishes and the party leader,” Aladwa said.

The liquor board was formed last year to regulate the alcohol industry after several deaths from illicit brews.

“Since my appointment, I was not given an office, staff, or a car. I have been reduced to a beggar in the governor’s office,” Aladwa said.

He said Kidero has betrayed him after he campaigned for him in the March 4, 2013 general election.
