Kalonzo’s Wiper party sacks ‘errant’ county majority leaders

kalonzo-picThe Wiper party has stripped majority leaders in Makueni and Machakos county assemblies of their positions for initiating impeachment motions against a governor and a deputy governor.

Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka Friday said that Francis Mutuku of Makueni and his Machakos counterpart Joshua Mwonga mobilised MCAs to impeach Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala despite the party being against the two motions.

Mr Musyoka said the pair had become errant and were not upholding the ideals of the party and accused Mr Mutuku of fighting in public during chaos at the Makueni County Assembly which left several people nursing gun injuries.

At the same time, the Wiper leader warned other elected party members who would not toe the line that he would “crack the whip” to ensure discipline within the party.

IGNORED SUMMONS

Speaking after chairing a Wiper party Nation Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, Mr Musyoka said the two leaders who had been de-whipped had been summoned to defend themselves but they failed to honour the summonses.

“We have decided to crack the whip in order to restore discipline in our party,” said Mr Musyoka during the press briefing.

He was flanked by more than a dozen elected party leaders.

He added that cases of indiscipline within the party were on the rise but denied claims that he was losing grip of the party.

PARTY CONSTITUTION

Mr Musyoka added that in arriving at the decision, the party had invoked section 4 (8) of its constitution which deals with disciplinary matters.

He said Wiper would write to the registrar of political parties to inform her of the decision adding that those members out to derail the party would not be tolerated.

The party leader however said he was not in any way showing intolerance to divergent views adding that those feeling unsatisfied in the party were free to resign and seek fresh mandate using other party tickets.

He added that the party was against the impeachment of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana or the dissolution of the county government.
