Kenyan appointed as UN Habitat main rep

A Kenyan has been appointed head of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFWS) at the United Nations Nairobi office.

Charles Mbugua will be the main IFSW representative at the UN Habitat.

He is the only Kenyan among 15 others appointed this week to various UN organizations in Nairobi, New York and Geneva.

Mbugua, who hails from Kiambu County, is the immediate past president of IFSW in Africa and has over 30 years’ experience in social work.

He has worked with World Vision International, the National Christian Council of Kenya and the Economic Commission for Africa as a private practitioner within the countries of the Great Lakes region.

Mbugua was instrumental in agitating for a change in the rules of procedure and engagement, paving the way for the formation of the World Urban Forum.

He is also a founding member and co-chair of the Commonwealth Organization for Social Work.

IFSW is a global organization that advocates for social justice, human rights and social development by promoting social work and best practice models and facilitating international cooperation.
