Kibwana’s bodyguard, Chief of Staff injured in Makueni shooting incident

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana’s Chief of Staff, his bodyguard and county Sergeant at Arms were among five people shot on Tuesday afternoon following a melee within the Makeni county assembly chamber.

Kibwana with his supporters stormed a meeting convened by Makueni politicians led by area MPs, Speaker, Majority leader and MCAs to deliberate on the development in the area.

Although it is alleged that guards at the county assembly premise were the ones who shot the five, area police boss Philip Opiyo has said investigations have been launched to establish who the perpetrators are.

A crowd of area residents thronged the area right before the shooting occurred.

Opiyo dismissed police involvement in the shooting after the county senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior blamed police for not being able to control the surging crowd.

Kibwana who addressed the press after the incident blamed the bodyguard of the county assembly speaker Stephen Ngelu for the shooting.

“The bodyguard to Makueni Speaker has shot four including my bodyguard and my Chief of Staff. This is the worst form of gullibility ever to be seen on earth,” Kibwana posted on his Twitter account.

The meeting was meant to settle mounting disquiet with the governor’s County Executive Committee which has been accused of corruption and impunity at the expense of the county’s development.

Last Saturday a group of MCAs and MPs led by Mbooni lawmaker Munyao Kisoi resolved to start an impeachment process in 14 days against Kibwana if he failed to sack corrupt officials in his county government.
