Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are among West African countries that recorded widespread transmission of Ebola in the 2014. An estimated 12,000 deaths occurred.

The epidemic affected flight operations in multiple countries including Kenya which banned its flight operations to the two countries.

In an interview with the Star after the launch of the Third Edition of the World Immunization Week, Macharia said due to the stability in the two regions, KQ operations would resume.

We have also resolved not to send the second cohort of volunteer health workers to the two countries as the first cohort has done a tremendous job”, said Macharia.
