More Names in graft list as Senate debates report

The names of other state and public officials allegedly involved in corruption were revealed Tuesday when the Senate began debate on the report.

Kenya’s envoy to Tanzania, Ali Mwakwere, National Police Service Commission chairman Johnston Kavuludi and Narok Governor Samuel Tunai were named on the list.

Others on the list are former Kenya National Examinations Council boss Paul Wasanga and MPs John Serut, Richard Onyonka, Peter Shehe and Julius Ndegwa.

It is alleged that in 2006, Mr Mwakwere used his office to deny former Kenya Railway Corporation employees a chance to purchase houses set aside for them to buy.

Mr Kavuludi is accused of abuse of office. He allegedly made trips abroad and failed to account for the funds.

Mr Serut, the Mt Elgon MP, is accused of fraudulent acquisition of funds belonging to Chepkurkur SA Primary School.

CDF FUNDS BOUGHT SUGAR

Mr Onyonka allegedly purchased sugar for internally displaced persons using money from the Constituency Development Fund.

Also appearing on the list is Caroli Omondi over the purchase of land on Loita Street, Nairobi, when he was the chief of staff in the office of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The office of the Auditor-General, headed by Edward Ouko, is also on the list over irregular procurement. The Kenya National Audit Office allegedly single-sourced the purchase of an audit vault and paid Sh100 million in advance.

Chief Land Registrar Sara Mwenda, her deputy, Geoffrey Birundu, and Pauline Gitimu, the senior deputy director at the Survey Registrar of Titles, have been accused of being beneficiaries of the controversial 134-acre Karen land.

Others on the list are Football Kenya Federation’s Sam Nyamweya, who is accused of embezzling the organisation’s funds, and former officials of the Interim Independent Electoral Commission over procurement of ballot papers.

Former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa has been accused of disposing of public land in Westlands.
