United Democratic Forum party leader Musalia Mudavadi has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation Address against critics.
In a statement, Mudavadi while describing the address delivered before a special sitting of Parliament as ‘frank’, said it was a bold statement of commitment in fighting graft.
“The sceptics miss the point that this is more than a policy statement or directive. The president has made a bold public commitment within the precinct of the Constitution,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi while commending the statement however said Uhuru will only win public goodwill if “heads start rolling,”
“He [Uhuru] took a calculated gamble that assuaged public apprehension on runaway graft and will pay off only if heads start rolling,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi called on Parliament and other oversight commissions like the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to emulate Uhuru’s “bold” stand against graft.
Mudavadi however said that Uhuru needs to work extra hard to remove the blot of ethnic exclusivity in public appointments.
“To safeguard public goodwill on cohesion, he must correct the breach of article 130 on the constitutional threshold,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi further said that the apology Uhuru issued on past atrocities sits well with Kenyans as a historical milestone that will be followed with reparations.
