Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) on Saturday made drastic changes to its national secretariat and warned errant members that they risked being disciplined for failing to toe the party line.
In a statement read by Secretary General-nominee Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, the party said all its elected and nominated leaders as well as other parties must support all party ideals and abide by them or risk being forced out of their jobs.
“The party will not tolerate indiscipline and anyone who repeatedly violates our party’s ideals will be kicked out as only those people ready to remain loyal and steadfast in their support to WDM and its Cord affiliates will be allowed to remain,” he said.
The Mombasa Senator was speaking at Sentrim Elementaita Lodge, Nakuru at the end of a two day party retreat which also resolved that the four television stations – NTV, QTV, Citizen and KTN which command over 90 per cent of television viewership must be accommodated and given adequate time to import their digital set top boxes.
SHOWN ARROGANCE
“The government has shown arrogance in the way it is treating the matter on digital migration by denying the market leaders a chance to offer Kenyans a service. As WDM, we affirm our positions that Kenyans have a right to know and it is only fair that the government immediately reopens the analogue signals for the four stations and allow them more time to import the set top boxes,” the party said.
The retreat also attended by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said that WDM was ready to support all efforts taken to fight corruption saying the Jubilee government must show its resolve to end the ‘grand’ corruption currently witnessed in the country starting with the ‘Chickengate’ scandal.
“How can you say there is no evidence when the bribe-givers are in jail for their acts? What about the ones who received the bribes and the proof of them receiving the money is there for all to see?” they posed.
PARTY SUMMIT
The retreat also saw establishment of the WDM Summit comprising of the party leader, WDM chairman David Musila, and all WDM governors as well as a Coalition Affairs secretariat to be headed by Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.
On party elections, WDM said that once the 16 nominees to various posts were approved by the National Delegates Conference, the party’s calendar of events will be rolled out countrywide to popularise the party ahead of the 2017 elections.
Saying they will have a presidential candidate in 2017, WDM said it would continue holding consultations with its coalition partners as winning any election requires support from all Kenyans who believe the ideals of the Cord coalition.
