Miss World Alexandria Washes Off Jiggers in Mathira


Joy and excitement engulfed Mathira constituency of Nyeri County over the weekend when the reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills visited the area. She led a bevy of beauty queens in treating those infested by jiggers.

Alexandria was accompanied by Miss Venezuela Adriana Vasini, Miss Botswana Emma Wareus and the reigning Miss World Kenya Natasha Metto in an exercise for washing the jigger infested victims at Ragati Primary School.

The 19-year-old visiting beauty queen said the initiative of fighting jiggers was inspirational and promised to use her beauty to make a difference. She also expressed her happiness for visiting the country saying it was wonderful.

The chairman of Miss World Organisation Julia Morley who was also present said that they will support the anti-jigger campaign to ensure that the menace is eradicated, adding, “we will also ensure we visit the 42 centres in the country which are helping in eradicating the parasites. We shall always come back.”

Mathira MP Ephraim Maina hosted the beauty queens and emphasized the need of cleanliness for every home to keep away the parasites.

Ahadi Kenya CEO Stanley Kamau and Anti jigger campaign ambassador Cecilia Mwangi said they would ensure the organization will continue in the fight of against parasites and ensure it’s eradicated by 2015. About 100 Administration Police officers were also engaged in the days activities. However, Ministry of Tourism officials snubbed the event.
