ODM’s Nairobi county elections have been nullified.

The party’s election board said the polls will be repeated by secret ballot at a date to be announced later.

The ODM grassroots elections that kicked off last week were marred by violence, confusion and rigging among other irregularities.

Prominent personalities have been toppled by civic leaders in the hotly contested polls at various county levels.

The election of Mayor George Aladwa as Nairobi County chairman is now null and void.

Aladwa who was backed by seven chairmen from city branches was elected unopposed using the queuing method after Stephen Kariuki from Starehe constituency pulled out of the race following disagreements on the voting system.

Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru who led the walk out by delegates from her constituency termed the poll a sham and accused rivals of using people who were not genuine party delegates to win the election.

Another splinter group led by former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and nominated MP Rachael Shebesh called for the resignation of the ODM Election Secretary Dr John Misoi whom they blamed for the mess.

Other officials elected to represent the county include; Ibrahim Ahmed (Vice Chairman), former Nairobi Mayor Godfrey Majiwa (County Secretary), Charles Kiarie (Organising Secretary) and Elizabeth Kimkung as the representative of women.

Majority of the members are crying foul saying those elected were handpicked.
