It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mr. Greg Ambrose Owino of Woodbridge, Virginia, U.S.A.  He died at his residence in Virginia on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 10:00 p.m. after a period of illness. Mr. Owino hails from Kagonya Village, Ugenya District in Siaya County.

Mr. Owino was beloved husband of Priscah Akinyi Owino of Woodbridge, Virginia. He was a loving father of Clara Owino of U.S.A, Kenneth Omondi Owino of Australia, Liyah Auma Owino of U.S.A and Gerald Oluoch Owino of Kenya. He was son of the late Mr. Ambrose Arek Oluoch and Mrs. Monica Emily Akoth of Kagonya Village, North Ugenya. He was brother to George Oluoch of Kisii, Lynette Odette formerly of Barclays Bank, Elly Oduor, Ministry of Agriculture, Machakos, the Late Anna Odongo and Mary Othieno among others. He was uncle to Roselyn Diang’a, Carol Odette, U.K., Christine Akinyi Odongo, U.K., Carren Demarris, Ohio, Dick Odongo and Susan Adhiambo. 

Mr. Owino was a former Communications Officer with UNICEF Country Office in Nairobi, Kenya. Prior to this, he was a lecturer at Kenya Science Teachers College and he also served in various positions at the Kenya Institute of Education. He was born in Daraja Mbili in Kisii. He went to school at Homabay and St. Mary’s Yala, and later proceeded to University of Nairobi where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He later attained his Master’s degree from Ibadan University in Nigeria. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the community at large.

Family and friends will be meeting every evening at 3531 Sophia Court, Woodbridge, VA 22193 to support the family and organize the funeral. The family phone numbers is 703-670-4999.

Fundraising event is scheduled for Saturday, December 10, 2011 to help transport the body to Kenya. Friends, relatives and well wishers are invited to the fundraising event.
