In Genesis chapter 17 verse 1 God said to Abraham (then Abram), “… I am the Almighty God…” Also in Genesis 35:11 the Lord said to Jacob, “… I am God Almighty…” These are just two of the many places in the scriptures where God introduced Himself. Now take another look at that word “almighty”.

What does it mean? It means enormous (massive, huge, gigantic, colossal, loud, deafening, earsplitting, mammoth, vast, gargantuan, titanic, monumental, and immense). It also means omnipotent (invincible, all-powerful, supreme, omnipresent) and great (terrible, terrific, serious, frightful).

What happens when God introduces Himself to an individual as the almighty and gives him a deep understanding of His enormity, greatness, and omnipotence? One of the resultant effects is that that individual develops a fear of the Lord. Now Proverbs 8:13 says, “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil…”
When you have a deep fear of the Lord which comes from an understanding of His massiveness, you want to stay away from evil because you know you cannot contend with this big God and win, and so the best thing you can do for yourself is to please Him and be in His good books.
Also Proverbs 9:10 says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and according to Ecclesiastes 7:12, wisdom is a defense and it gives life to those who have it.
Do you want life both here and in eternity? Let God introduce Himself to you as the almighty, understand His greatness, and let it fill you with fear for Him and with wisdom.
When God introduces Himself to you as the almighty your fear of the devil, his hosts, and the problems of this life fades away.
This is because you begin to see them as grasshoppers or even ants beside your God. They are no longer able to terrorize you because you live with the consciousness that you have the terrible, invincible God inside and around you.
Also when God introduces Himself to you, the level of your faith in Him rises higher. When you understand that God is huge, all-powerful, etc., how will you not trust Him? Linked to this is the fact that your prayer life becomes better.
You see, one of the reasons why some Christians are prayerless is that they don’t really understand that the God they call their Father is omnipotent; and when you are not even sure that He is able to do what you desire you will be reluctant to pray to Him.
With the understanding of God as the omnipotent one you will be encouraged to spend more time in the place of prayer.
The understanding of God as the almighty also keeps believers from going down to Egypt for help. This is because we understand that “almighty” also means “supreme” (highest, matchless, unbeatable, etc.).
If you understand your God to be the highest, who would you be going to meet in “Egypt” that would be able to help you like He would?
Another thing that happens when God introduces Himself to us as the almighty is that we begin to see ourselves as privileged to have the enormous, supreme, all-powerful, titanic God as our Father.
You begin to better appreciate your relationship with Him especially when you consider that even the presidents of this world and other highly placed mortals are not within the reach of everyone but the Almighty God, the king Maker Himself lives in you and you have access to Him at anytime in the day or night (as long as you are not living in sin).
Of course when you count yourself honored to have Him you will want to do anything and everything to ensure that you do not lose that connection you have with Him; you will be ready to pay any price (including severing your relationship with your friends of several years who are dishonoring your God and will not change) for your relationship with Him to be unbroken.
How does the Almighty introduce Himself to a Christian? He does it through His Word, which comes to us through different means.
Note, however, that it is possible to study the Word personally or listen to teachings during which God is introducing Himself and still not have an understanding of who He is.
If you want to really understand when God introduces Himself, and also enjoy all the benefits that come from that understanding, you need to stay close to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to give you an interpretation, an understanding of the message the Lord is passing across to you each time you come into His presence.
The reason why a lot of Christians do not profit from the study of the Word is that they keep the Holy Spirit out of their study (whether they are studying personally or in church, etc.).
How can someone understand God’s declarations in the scriptures if he shuts off the Spirit of God of whom Jesus said in John 16:13, “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself: but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come”?
We also receive revelations of God in the place of prayer if we allow the Holy Spirit to talk to us. Prayer is supposed to be a two-way communication between us and our heavenly Father, but a lot of times believers just hurriedly say what they have in mind to Him and rush off without giving Him a chance to tell them what He has in mind.
If you have not been allowing God to introduce Himself to you during your prayer time, let there be a change.
When God introduces Himself to you, there are benefits that follow: listen to Him.
