Contrary to what the Diaspora Kenyans were made to understand by the politicians and IEBC official who made countless trips abroad, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya does not allow Kenyans with dual citizenship to vie for any electoral position in the Republic of Kenya, thanks to MP’s who inserted dubious clauses on the Election Act 2012.
A good case in point is Bishop Donald Mwawasi from Atlanta, Georgia. who is vying for the senatorial seat of Taita Taveta County. Bishop Mwawasi has been nominated by his party to run for the seat but the IEBC won’t accept his nomination papers because he is a citizen of USA.
He is now involved in a bitter legal battle that has costed him not only over half a million Kenyan shillings, but precious time for his campaign trail.
Kenyans living in Diaspora need to know about this distressing position that IEBC holds on Kenyans with dual citizenship and be careful next time politicians come promising heaven on earth.
