Nairobi-senator elect Mike Sonko was at hand to receive the Kenyan national team Harambee Starts upon their arrival from Nigeria where they played in a world cup qualifying match which ended in a 1:1 draw. He had pledge Sh1 million to the team upon a win but he said that the away draw was as good as a win. He had also pledged Sh100,000 for any player who scored a goal. He handed Sh600,000 to the team captain immediately.
A jubilant crowd was at hand to receive the team at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport upon their return to Kenya.
Addressing journalists at the airport, KFF Secretary Sam Nyamweya commended the team for their gallant performance against a backdrop of mistreatment in the host company. The match ended in a 1:1 draw.
