Briefing of the country’s 52 ambassadors and high commissioners is still on course, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.

The envoys were expected in the country last week after being recalled for consultations with the new administration which has not yet happened.

Diplomatic and Political Affairs Secretary, Amb Patrick Wamoto yesterday told the Star that the briefings will be held “in due course.” He said the briefing have been put on hold because of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tight schedule, which has been mostly occupied with crafting a new administration and meeting foreign dignitaries.

“The briefing is still on course but as you may realise, the President has had a very tight schedule in the last couple of days,” he said.

On Sunday April 14, the Head of Public Service Francis Kimemia ordered the ambassadors and high commissioners in Kenya’s foreign missions to come to Nairobi, leaving the management of the foreign missions in the hands of Charge de Affairs and Deputy Ambassadors “until further notice”.

PS Thuita Mwangi later clarified Kimemia’s directive, stating that “the ambassadors and high commissioners have been instructed to come to Nairobi for purposes of briefing and consultations with the new administration.”
